Web services company AOL Inc (NYSE:AOL) said on Thursday that it has introduced a smartphone portal at http://m.aol.com, featuring AOL content optimised for mobile devices.
The new smartphone portal is designed to work on any mobile browser. AOL said that, for smartphones supporting HTML5, including iPhone and Android devices, the portal provides a touch-driven interface that allows users to easily scroll through articles and content; location-based services providing local weather, movie, traffic and other updates; an application directory; and support for video content.
In addition AOL has released two new free applications for Android-based devices. The AOL app for Android provides access to many of the company’s most popular websites, while the DailyFinance app for Android allows users to receive real-time stock quotes and financial news and users can track up to 25 different portfolios.
