SunGard Announces First Quarter 2010 Results

WAYNE, Pa. — SunGard, one of the worlds leading software and technology services
companies, today reported that revenue for the quarter ended March 31,
2010 was $1.25 billion, down 6% from 2009. Adjusted EBITDA was $297
million, down 9% from 2009. Adjusted income from operations was $217
million, down 10% from 2009. Excluding the results of one of our trading
systems businesses, a broker/dealer described below, revenue was up
3%and adjusted income from operations was down 3%. Income from
operations for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 was $74 million, down
26% from 2009. Adjusted EBITDA and adjusted income from operations are
defined in Notes 1 and 2 in the Notes attached to this release.
Organic revenue (defined as revenue from businesses owned for at least
one year and adjusted for both businesses sold in the previous twelve
months and the impact of currency exchange rates) was down 9% for the
quarter, all of which was attributable to one of our trading systems
businesses, a broker/dealer. This broker/dealer revenue was down 69%
compared to the prior year due primarily to the industry-wide dynamic by
which active trading firms are opting to become broker/dealers and trade
on their own behalf. See Note 3 in the Notes attached to this release.
Cristbal Conde, president and chief executive officer, commented,
SunGards performance in the quarter reflects the challenging operating
environment and the lag effect of our recurring revenue business model.
Prevailing trends continue with long sales cycles and high pricing
pressure. Our results also reflect the changing dynamics and regulatory
environment in the financial industry which are behind the one-time drop
in revenue from our trading systems business. Otherwise, our software
and processing businesses are showing signs of renewed growth and while
it is too early to call the bottom of the market, we are cautiously
optimistic. The IT spending mood shows signs of an uptick, our sales
pipelines reflect a higher quality of deals andour competitive

Aldridge-based window and conservatory supplier Best Value Conservatories has acquired rival Laird Lifestyle Products for an undisclosed sum.
Laird Lifestyle Products, also based in Aldridge, supplies doors, windows, shower enclosures and conservatories, mainly to DIY retailers.
It was bought from Laird Security Systems – the business acquired earlier this year by investment firm Lupus Capital.
The Davies family, owners of Best Value Conservatories, had originally started Laird Lifestyle Products as British Home Doors before selling to management in 2001.
In 2004, BHD went into administration and was aquired by Laird Group. In April this year, Laird sold the business to Lupus.
Derek Davies, who founded BVC in 2005, said: “The business is a principal supplier of windows, doors and conservatory products to the main UK DIY retailers and trade operators. The combined business will have a turnover in excess of pounds 25 million.”
John Kaleta, BVC’s managing director said the deal was an exciting opportunity to capitalise on the increased volume available to the firm’s manufacturing facilities. Pat Moore of Horwath Clark Whitehill, who advised on the management buy-out in 2001 and was lead advisor to BVC on the current deal, said: “This was a very unusual transaction and the code name ‘Project Full Circle’ was very apt.
“The BVC team and the advisors all pulled together and completed the transaction in a very short time frame for the benefit of both Best Value Conservatories and Lupus Capital.”
Catherine Eley, of Eversheds, who had also given legal advice on the sale of British Home Doors in 2001, said: “We are delighted that Derek and the BVC team are back at the helm and wish them well in their expansion plans.”
The deal was also backed by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

KAJANG: It was an “explosive” find for a police raiding team in a drug lab – an assortment of spent bullet shells and hand grenade caps.
Police are looking at the possibility that the suspected trafficker could be making his own explosives to “aid” his drug business.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shakaruddin Che Mood said a team raided the single-storey terrace house in Taman Paling Jaya, Semenyih, at 4.15pm on Monday.
“The 40-year-old local was using the house to process an assortment of drugs, including ketamine, syabu and Ecstasy.”
What surprised police was the discovery of 36 M16 spent bullet shells, rifle shells and several hand grenade caps.
Shakaruddin said police were trying to trace the suspect’s accomplices.

NEIL Jones and Katie Brighton are hoping to put the fun into fitness with their new Cheltenham business. The pair have launched Fitness Troop, which provides bootcamp-style exercise sessions at the town’s Pittville Park and residential weekends in the Forest of Dean and other locations.
Both personal and professional partners, they have many years’ experience in health and fitness.
Neil, 34, was a former member of the Gloucestershire Regiment serving in Bosnia, Cyprus and Northern Ireland before training in strategic weapons systems on the Royal Navy’s Vanguard class submarines for seven years.
He then returned to his home town of Cheltenham to retrain as a personal trainer. Katie, 31, became a personal trainer some years ago after a career training racehorses, working as a skiing guide in the Alps and for an activity company in the south of France.
She said: “Coming together to form Fitness Troop enabled us to combine our strengths and knowledge, creating a concept that really works.
“We both enjoy training people outdoors and believe real encouragement helps people to motivate themselves.”
